Rooster Gallery
17 - 20 May, 2018, Georgia
The Rooster Gallery representing the young generation of Lithuanian painters introduces the latest works by several up-and-coming artists - Aukse Miliukaite, Kristina Alisauskaite, Andrius Zakarauskas, Alina Melnikova, Tomas Dauksa, Vita Opolskyte and Stasele Jakunskaite. Although the artists are different, all of them have something in common – it is a tendency to reflect on painting as a medium and its history, and to explore its possibilities. For that purpose, they choose autobiographical elements and rely on their personal experience. Besides, references to the history of painting and art in general are given, polemics with the painting tradition is developed, and the tradition itself is rethought and deconstructed. One more strategy used by the artists is the conceptualization of painting as a means of expression, and the conversion of painting elements into part of a narrative. As an additional means for their creative endeavours, the artists often make use of other art forms (drawing, sculpture), which not only make their work more diverse in terms of visual expression, but also expand it thematically. This stylistically multifaceted but thematically consistent exhibition, a kind of polylogue of artists of the young generation, emphatically reveals the issues of the day of the Lithuanian painting scene.
