Avtandil Gakhokidze

Avtandil Gakhokidze (1987) is a contemporary Georgian artist. 2009 - 2013 Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department. 2015 - 2019 Master's degree, Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Avtandil Gakhokidze lives and works in Tbilisi. The artist's working medium includes painting, graphics, video installation. Avtandil Gakhokidze's artistic language is synthetic, the artist often uses a modern interpretation of classical motifs and themes. Avtandil Gakhokidze's genre range includes animalistic genre, portraiture and geometric abstraction.

Avtandil Gakhokidze has been collaborating with Dédicace Gallery since 2018. Where a solo exhibition was organized in 2019. He has participated twice, in the exhibition of 6 artists, the best representatives of the Millennium generation.

Since 2020, he has been working in residence at Dédicace Gallery.

Artist Statement

Avtandil Gakhokidze's painting is mainly connected to personal, intimate experiences. His works represent naturalistically depicted artistic characters.
Gakhokidze's style is contradictory, where quotations from the history of Western painting intersect with the visual spectacle characteristic of the modern world. It is about artistic experiments conditioned by globalization processes, where experiences of different contexts meet each other in artistic hybrids.
Avtandil Gakhokidze's artistic hybrids are created by the free manipulation of models legitimized by history and academic experience, their deconstruction, combination with kitsch elements and transformation of generalized forms into an extremely specific identity.
