Guram Shavdia’s practice is based on the reconceptualization of historical, pop-cultural, and fictional archetypes, placing them into new visual contexts that question established hierarchies and meanings. Through this process, he recontextualizes historical figures, fairy tale characters, and art references, engaging with how familiar images shape collective perception and transforming them into layered, open-ended metaphors. Humor, self-irony, intuition, and spontaneity are central to his approach.
Working with mixed media on canvas and paper, his process remains closely tied to this approach, where shifts in material and image unfold simultaneously within the work.

Mariam Odishelidze
In recent years, Mariam Odishelidze has been working with textile-based practices, where her earlier work in oil painting on canvas and water-based media on paper is brought together and reconfigured into new forms. She creates drawings on natural fabrics using ink, which she then further processes so that the surface becomes raised, giving the work a more tangible, material presence.
The textiles she uses are often everyday family items such as tablecloths, bed linens, and towels, which carry both personal and feminine layers of meaning for her.
Her works are constructed according to pre-imagined forms: she draws on the fabric with ink, then cuts and stitches it, allowing the image to gain a relief-like, spatial quality. In this process, she also revisits her earlier works on canvas, reinterpreting them within this new medium.
The presented work is also part of this approach and consists of two sewn textile compositional elements.
