Nina Petriashvili is a photographer born in Georgia and raised in Tbilisi, the country's capital. After graduating from school, she moved to Germany. While living in Munich, she encountered a vibrant artistic environment, meeting inspiring artists and attending numerous exhibitions. These experiences led her to take her first steps in photography, developing her own visual language through independent projects and personal exhibitions.
In 2017, she relocated to Graz, Austria, to study Fine Art Photography and Multimedia Art. During her studies, she collaborated with various artists and participated in multiple exhibitions. Her work was also presented at photo festivals including the Biennale der Steirischen Fotokunst, Photofestival Graz, and Visa pour l'Image (Canon Student Programme).
In 2020, after completing her diploma thesis in photography, she returned to Georgia. Guided by her deep connection to nature, she began exploring the country and its culture again through her camera. Georgia's diverse landscapes have since become a central element of her work, enabling her to create vivid and multifaceted photographic narratives.
Artist Statement
Nina Petriashvili's recent works explore the body and space as a unified, indivisible given, as the continuous, mutual extension of two phenomena.
Emerging from a practice grounded in sustained observation, the artist refuses the classical separation of portrait and landscape. Within these works, the two genres are not treated as distinct categories; they are conceived as interdependent elements of a single visual field.
Detail-oriented, non-classical landscape fragments connect with elements of the body, forming a unified whole through light, contrast, and perspective.
The images establish no strict boundaries: space acquires bodily qualities, while the body takes on those of space. In this way, the emphasis shifts from simple depiction toward an exploration of mutual presence — the shared existence of both.
