Artist Statement
Working primarily with oil painting, Mako Lomadze explores the expressive potential of traditional painting while engaging with contemporary conceptual approaches. Her practice moves between magical realism, contemporary surrealism, and expressive realism, often guided by symbolism and intuitive processes rooted in dreams, memory, and the subconscious.
Her work frequently unfolds in series and often incorporates elements of self-portraiture, functioning as visual records of introspection and emotional transformation. Through layered symbolism and dreamlike imagery, Lomadze creates poetic narratives that reflect personal experiences while addressing broader themes such as identity, resilience, ecological awareness, and the evolving role of women in contemporary society.
Characterized by ethereal atmospheres and emotional depth, her paintings invite viewers to explore multiple layers of meaning beyond the immediate visual experience. Lomadze’s creative process begins with internal reflection and philosophical inquiry, which she translates into a symbolic visual language through painting.
