Rusudan Khizanishvili
b. 1979, Tbilisi, Georgia
Lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia
Rusudan Khizanishvili holds BFAs in Painting from J. Nikoladze Art School and the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, as well as an MA in Film Studies.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art, Tbilisi; Mark Rothko Foundation, Latvia; Galerie LJ, Paris; Kornfeld Galerie, Berlin; CAM Gallery, Mexico; and Assembly Room, New York. In 2015, she represented Georgia at the 56th Venice Biennale.
Khizanishvili’s paintings explore transformation, memory, and feminine strength, often portraying archetypal heroines in a state of change. She draws on inherited memory, bringing together human, animal, and elemental forms that transcend physical limits.
At the intersection of ecofeminism, mysticism, and politics, her layered visual language reflects fluid identities and interconnected environments. Through her work, Khizanishvili challenges dominant narratives and imagines transformative futures.
