Y Ko

Y Ko (Julia Kozhuhova) Was born in 1998 in Samara, Russia.

Ten years had been working like a model, but always was filming and shooEng at the same Eme. Studied at the Faculty of Journalism of the Russian State University for the HumaniEes. Photography/PainEng - self-taught. In 2022 moved to Italy, now based in Milan, Italy. Since 2025 studies at the Brera Academy.

Artist Statement

I work across photography, video, painting, and music, approaching each medium as a way to both observe and explore. My practice is driven by curiosity and a desire to synthesize different forms, allowing me to convey atmosphere and feeling as authentically as possible. Usually I shoot on film, including expired stocks, and Polaroid, drawn to their unpredictability and vivid color.

I also experiment with 8mm video, inspired by the nearly forgotten “Parallel Cinema” movement of late 1980s Saint Petersburg. Combining these materials with paint, collage or mixed media, I extend my visual language toward something raw and intuitive, close to art brut, in an attempt to tell stories in a more honest, almost physical way. In music, I have experience with various instruments, though I am currently focused on electronic sound, using it to create immersive, landscape-like compositions.
