Teona Burkiashvili, also known by artistic name Teo Burki, is a Georgian-born artist based in London and Tbilisi. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts before furthering her education at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. In 2020, she earned her Master’s degree in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
Teo has participated in numerous international exhibitions, projects and residencies, showcasing her eclectic and exploratory art style across digital and physical media. Burki’s hybrid style combines a variety of media, often working with unexpected materials and shifting between digital art and traditional forms. Her exhibitions in Georgia, Belgium, and the UK include displays at notable venues like Tate Modern’s “Tate Exchange” and APT Gallery’s “Becomings”, Tbilisi Art Fair and so on, further solidify her international influence. She is also a member of UK based art organizations Slash Arts and was featured in “Where’s the Frame’s” write-up “Lick the Future,” as an Avant-guard artist to showcase her distinct approaches to contemporary themes.
Artist Statement
Burki’s artistic practice is characterized by her exploration of contemporary painting and moving image, where she investigates the intersection of digital and manual sensibilities. Her work often fuses abstract expressionism with figurative elements, leading to a hybrid form of painting that reflects on the complexities of mark-making in today’s visually saturated world. By layering ephemeral and digitally manipulated visual materials, she creates works that blur the lines between reality and the virtual domain.
