Artist Statement
Anka Akhalaia’s artistic practice explores the transformation of visual images within human consciousness, focusing on the tension between reason and emotion. The abstract forms in her works originate from dream imagery, translated into fluid compositions on translucent fabric.
The work engages with the liminal state between reality and imagination — moments when memory and perception distort and reconstruct experience. Transparency functions as a metaphor for consciousness itself: a space through which thoughts pass, dissolve, and leave only traces.
By working with light, layered materials, and text fragments, the artist creates environments where viewers can project their own meanings. The works are not narratives but open structures, inviting personal interpretation and emotional response.
