Charles Berling is a French acclaimed actor, director, screenwriter and producer. He is the fourth of six siblings. His father was a navy doctor and his mother an english teacher, born in Morocco. Following the assignments of his father, he lived in Paris, Brest, Tahiti and Toulon where at 15 he started acting in a theater studio created by his elder brother. He trained as an actor at INSAS in Brussels and then joined the national theater of Strasbourg. After ten years of being exclusively a theatrical actor, he started acting in movies such as Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud from master director Claude Sautet and was nominated for best actor award in 1996 for his role in Ridicule, directed by Patrice Leconte. Since then he went on to act in more than 50 movies and 25 plays (Camus, Beckett, Miller, Stravinsky, Shakespeare, Sophocle, Fassbinder, Garcia-Lorca, Celine, Genet, Pagnol, Reza…). He has directed several plays and wrote 3 novels. Since 2010, with his brother Philippe, they are managing the Liberty Theater in Toulon. Charles Berling was born in 1958, he is the father of actor Emile Berling. He lives between Paris and the south of France.
